We have already made numerous changes to the 2017 version of the software to improve the usability of ST4 and in turn the efficiency of your processes. This year we have built on this and made a few minor and major adjustments, which you can take a closer look at during the tcworld conference. Last week you will have familiarised yourself with the TMS Health Report, which supports your translation processes. In this post, we will be introducing six minor modifications, the aim of which is to further optimise the usability of ST4 and to make working with ST4 2018 more effective and intuitive every day.
Filtering by blue books
All your specific production parameters are stored in “blue books”, and as you know, you can create as many blue books as you need for your output formats. To simplify this process in the Production Manager, we have now incorporated a filter mechanism that can be used to limit the view, for example to relevant products only.
And you don’t just have the option to filter by blue books: as of ST4 2018, you can also use the filter function in the Pending TMS exports overview.
Uniform standards for design elements
If you use a standard format for your design elements, you can now set this as the default format under Common Options. In doing so, you specify a fixed colour, line width, etc. for individual elements, such as a rectangle or ellipse, and you do not have to redefine these settings for each element.
If you have created defaults under Common Options, these will be used by the Callout Designer, Page Layout Designer and OMD when creating new elements.
Creating taxonomy classes more easily
Previously, to create taxonomy classes, you had to determine the properties in various dialogues. We have improved this process: you can now save the most important properties conveniently in one dialogue window and in one work step.
We have also added a taxonomy property: determining whether a taxonomy is mandatory if it is used as hierarchical metadata. It is worth mentioning here that unfortunately this often involved the support of the hotline, as the modelling had to be modified. However, with ST4 2018, you can now determine whether the hierarchical data is mandatory directly under Properties.
Freezing the usage tree and version browser
The dynamic viewlets in ST4 allow you to build your own cockpit, which displays all the desired information on the selected nodes. You can open the viewlets in a window layout and arrange them according to your needs for a specific workflow.
We have included an additional function in the new version that enables you to make more efficient use of the window layout; as already implemented in the Quick View, the content currently displayed in the version browser and in the usage tree can now be frozen.
Warning when changing the original graphic
The original graphic can still be saved in addition to the graphics created as a resource for the respective type of publication, for example as a CAD or Illustrator file. However, the original graphic will not be used in publications. Should you now change the original graphic, i.e. edit or reimport it, ST4 issues a warning that the graphics for these types of publication have not been changed.
You can see straight away that the graphic resource must also be changed in the other types of publication.
And last but not least: less obvious changes to the appearance of the software
To conclude, we would like to present two minor changes.
The number of selected objects is now displayed in the status bar in ST4 2018, so you can see which nodes are selected regardless of the type of object.
We are also making a slight change to the ST4 user interface, as we are replacing our existing “MS Arial Unicode” font with “Microsoft Sans Serif”. This font is a great fit for our client and it also supports a number of exotic languages. Also, “MS Arial Unicode” is unfortunately no longer supplied with current versions of Microsoft Office.
Would you like to try out these new functions and see a live demonstration? We would love to hear your feedback! Visit us at our stand at the tcworld conference and discover the small yet significant changes we have made to ST4 2018.
